Hey, family!
We've made it to the final month of the year and probably my favorite month of all.
December and the Christmas Season hold the most special place in my heart and remind me that no matter what is going on around us, we have plenty reason to smile and to have joy.
I'm reading one chapter of the book of Luke per day in this final month of 2024, and after finishing Chapter 1, I'm reminded of this truth -- God specializes in miracles.
Let me break this down for you.
Elizabeth and Zacharias were of older age and were told that Elizabeth was barren, which meant she was not capable of having children. 'Gabriel' the angel appeared to Elizabeth and Zacharias and told them that they would bear a son and his name would be 'John.' Zacharias found this very hard to believe, which I can't necessarily blame him for.
How many of us are guilty of relying on our current circumstances to foreshadow what our future will look like? I know I definitely have been.
That same angel, 'Gabriel', then appears to Elizabeth's cousin, Mary (who was also a virgin) and tells her and Joseph, who she was essentially engaged to, that they would also bear a son. They were told that their son would be named 'Jesus' and that he would be the Son of God.
Mary's response to what the angel told her was that of obedience and of willingness.
Your response to God's word matters -- even when -- and especially when it has not yet come to pass; and when your current circumstances look nothing like what He told you.
The angel tells Mary that she has no reason to fear, because she has found favor with God. (Luke 1:30)
The angel also shares with Mary that her cousin Elizabeth will give birth to a son, regardless of her barren status. (Luke 1:37)
Mary then goes to visit her pregnant cousin, and the unborn John leaped inside of Elizabeth's womb and the both of them were then filled with the Holy Spirit.
Your company matters.
Elizabeth was blessed by Mary coming to visit her and otherwise would not have been filled with the Holy Spirit.
Both women believed in the promises of God and were blessed to bear witness to two miracles because of their steadfast faith in what they had been told. (Luke 1:45)
Elizabeth and Zacharias had to wait to see God's promise come to pass, even though their age would suggest it was impossible. God knows no timeline and no bounds. He moves WHEN He wants to move and HOW He wants to move.
Open your mind to all of the possibilities and realize that small dreams don't glorify or magnify our Father.
God specializes in the miraculous.
Ask Him for what may seem too big to your finite mind.
It will never be too much for an infinite God.
